BB Lomé Partnership – ESOP Rice: Meeting at ESOP Rice Notsè
March 30, 2018

On February 28, 2018, at ETD headquarters, an exchange meeting took place between the ESOP rice managers and the ETD technical team.

Started at 8:00, this meeting brought together all the managers working in the rice sector as well as the CEO of ETD, Mr. ABITOR Komi and the head of the support center for SMEs and TPE within ETD. The internal controller and two ETD agricultural advisors were also present.

The main purpose of this meeting was to capitalize the achievements of the rice ESOPs on the sector until 2017 and to define a new strategy based on the synergy of the direct stakeholders for a better offer to the consumers.

The meeting revolved around the following points:

The balance sheet of 2017 activities (sales supply and consolidated indicators)
Reflections on a strategy for securing the raw material
Financing the development of ESOP activities (CIDEA / FID)
Defining new business strategies
Safeguarding the cohesion of the network to impose itself on the market.
The results of the 2017 activities were made by the head of the support center for SMEs and VSEs, Ms. Koffi Affi. During this presentation, it appeared that although a 26% increase was recorded compared to 2016, the quantities of raw materials produced by ESOPs are lower than forecast (3850 tonnes against 6600 tonnes). In addition, the key indicators of the ESOPs were reviewed and various points of attention were noted in particular with regard to the quality approach.

Taking the floor, the CEO of ETD made a presentation on the sustainable structuring of six agri-food chains with high added value in West Africa, Benin and Togo. He discussed the development of ESOP activities, particularly through the CIDEA (Capital Investment for the Development of Companies in the Agri-Food Sector) and the FID (Innovation and Development Fund).

Reflections were also pushed on the definition of a strategy of securing and increasing the raw material. The acquisition of paddy rice were decided by some ESOPs. It was also agreed that the team of the support and structuring of farmers group would carry out certain activities including those relating to the mapping of the intervention areas of the ESOPs and those related to the holding of a meeting with the CSPs of the rice ESOPs to present the results of the intervention areas of their ESOPs and the potential areas to be explored.

The point was also made on the seed requirements of ESOPs, the terms of disposals and the support to be given to ESOP seeds to improve the quality of seeds.

Finally, business strategies were developed for the sale of ESOP products, packaging procurement and price harmonization to gain more performance and professionalism.

Questions regarding the distribution of the quantities to be delivered for delivery to the Brasserie du Benin were discussed. The meeting ended in the evening, around 20:00.
